Every month, we shine a spotlight on one saver, asking them questions about their savings culture and how the product is specifically helping them shape how they spend and save for future responsibilities. Everyone has a different use for Piggybank, and honestly, it’s a delight!

So, here we go. Meet Femi.

__

What do you do?

I run a Gadgets company in Lagos. Golden Gadgets. We sell Mobile Phones (iPhones and Samsung), iPads, Laptops, Apple Watches, Game Consoles, and other Apple related gadgets.

When did you start saving on PiggyBank?

I actually downloaded the app around August 2017, and it was just on my phone till I woke up one morning in November 2017 and thought to even check it out and see what it was all about. I was skeptical about it so I saved just N5000 because I felt even if it was a scam, I can do away with N5000.

What are you saving towards?

I’ve always had a habit of saving money since my secondary school days. I just save without knowing what I’m actually saving for, then once I have a need, I know I have something to fall back on. But now that I’m an adult, with all the bills that come with adulting, most of my savings are just to sort the numerous bills. Especially rent! The money for rent in Lagos is no joke. Sigh!

What do you spend most of your income on?

I think food! I’m always buying food one way or the other. Also, I like to look good, so once i see nice clothes and shoes, money must leave my account. Haha, everyone agrees you can never have enough clothes and shoes right?

What would you like to stop spending money on?

Sigh! Rent. The amount I spend on rent in a year is really much. There’s house rent to pay, as I’m paying that, I’m also thinking of how to pay rent for the store. It’s really exhausting to be honest.

What’s your favourite food?

I’m a Yoruba man, so I love Amala. Especially with ewedu and gbegiri with ogufe and some inu eran” to garnish it. Chai!!

Where is your dream vacation destination?

Paris! I’ve seen pictures and heard so many amazing things about the city but for now, I’m working towards Dubai.

Within your savings period, have you ever been tempted to withdraw, if yes how many times?

Lol, I think I’ve withdrawn just twice since I started saving. Except from my Flex Account though. But I didn’t withdraw from my Core Savings throughout last year because I decided on a personal savings target, and I should reach it by February or early March, so that’s when I’ll withdraw. But normally, I’m never tempted to withdraw.

What PiggyBank feature do you use the most?

Target Savings. I like setting new targets for myself. Think I have 3 targets still running from 5. 2 have ended, so it’s remaining 3 now.

How exactly has PiggyBank helped you?

It’s a life saver! At least I can confidently say I pay all my bills without needing anyone to borrow me money or anything.

Has PiggyBank helped you save?

Yes it has, a thousand times over!

What do you find unique or different about the platform?

No hidden charges, no transfer charges! And it’s very easy to navigate and easy to understand.
